Resolution: Antibiotic Stewardship Programs in CMS Conditions of Participation - PDF*
Executive Summary
In a letter addressed to the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, the PACCARB calls for the immediate finalization of the proposed Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) conditions of participation rule, which mandates the adoption of antibiotic stewardship programs (ASPs) in hospitals, including critical access hospitals (CAHs). The council firmly believes that mandating ASPs in hospitals and CAHs will yield immediate positive results in antibiotic prescribing practices, thus contributing to the fight against antibiotic resistance and safeguarding the nation's health in the face of this growing public health threat.
