Looking Back and Moving Forward: Elevating Youth Sports in a Changing World

It has been a little over a year since our office launched the National Youth Sports Strategy Champions (NYSS Champions) partnership initiative at the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition Annual Meeting in September 2020. NYSS Champions are recognized for their work promoting youth sports participation and supporting the vision of the National Youth Sports Strategy: that one day all youth will have the opportunity, motivation, and access to play sports. Today, we celebrate and thank the 167 organizations that are part of the network.

Access to easy-to-understand, relatable, and actionable information encourages individuals to be proactive in seeking to improve and maintain their health. While striving to be healthy and understanding what it takes to be healthy are not the same thing, the root of healthy living is an adequate baseline of usable knowledge – what we refer to as health literacy. Improving our mindfulness of this, as health professionals and lay persons, is a good start toward more effective communication and perhaps better health and well-being.

Newly Released: Healthy People 2020 Final Review Progress by Population Group

Today, the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) released the Healthy People 2020 (HP2020) Final Review Progress by Population Group analysis. The analysis is the next component in the HP2020 Final Review suite of products being released on a rolling basis. This analysis provides the final progress status by population group for a subset of the 1,111 measurable objectives that have data available for any of six broad population characteristics: sex, race and ethnicity, educational attainment, family income, disability status, and geographic location...
