Throughout the decade, including at the midpoint, HHS assessed progress toward achieving the nation’s 10-year health objectives. The report “Healthy People 2020: An End of Decade Snapshot” provides an overview of progress made over the decade in meeting the Healthy People 2020 objective targets.
This high-level summary covers national progress and progress within population groups — showing variation by race and ethnicity, family income, and other factors. Individuals, organizations, and communities committed to improving health and well-being can leverage this information to target their efforts in the new decade. The report also provides a detailed assessment of the Healthy People 2020 Leading Health Indicators, a subset of objectives that identify high-priority health issues.
In addition to highlighting progress, the report identifies which issues need improvement.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics will publish a more detailed end-of-decade assessment in 2021.
