The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) Information Resource Center provides information on health issues related to NICHD research. NICHD supports and conducts research on health topics related to children, adults, families, and communities. NICHD has primary responsibility for conducting and supporting basic, clinical, and translational research in the biomedical, behavioral, and social sciences related to child and maternal health, in medical rehabilitation, and in the reproductive sciences. NICHD also leads a consortium of Federal agencies in leading the National Children’s Study, which will examine environmental effects on child health and development. The National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS) was established in 1972 as a centralized information service for criminal justice practitioners and researchers. NCJRS provides reference services; distributes publications of the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs; acquires publications for its collection; and provides other services, such as document loan and information dissemination, via the Internet. CDC’s Division of Oral Health (DOH) promotes proven interventions, such as community water fluoridation and dental sealants, to reduce the rate of cavities, especially for populations at highest risk. DOH supports state oral health programs, collects surveillance data on oral diseases, and develops and promotes adherence to infection prevention and control guidelines for dental health care personnel. The division supports integration of medical and dental care to address other chronic diseases associated with poor oral health. DOH also strengthens the dental public health workforce with a residency training program.

Medically unexplained illnesses (also commonly referred to as Gulf War illness or Chronic Multi-symptom illness) are a significant concern for some Veterans who served during the Gulf War. VA offers eligible Veterans a free Gulf War Registry health exam to find possible long-term health problems related to Gulf War service. VA also offers health care, disability compensation, and other benefits to eligible Veterans. Their dependents and survivors may also be eligible for benefits."
