This CDC brief summarizes the scientific evidence on flavored tobacco retail density, location, and licensure. The quantity and closeness of tobacco retailers can make it hard for people to quit. Scientific evidence supports licensing tobacco retailers, limiting retailer density, and limiting proximity to youth-oriented places. Retail-focused strategies should be a complement to — not replacement of — comprehensive tobacco prevention and control.
