Status: Baseline only
Increase the proportion of physician office visits made by adult patients with obesity that include counseling or education related to weight reduction, nutrition, or physical activity
Baseline: 24.8 percent of physician office visits made by adults with obesity included counseling or education related to weight reduction, nutrition, or physical activity in 2016 (age adjusted to the year 2000 standard population)
Target: 32.6 percent
Many adults in the United States have obesity, which is linked to chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and several types of cancer. But people with obesity often don’t get counseling related to weight loss, nutrition, or physical activity as part of health care visits. If health care providers refer adults with obesity to intensive behavioral interventions, it may help reduce obesity and related problems.
