Status: Baseline only

Reduce the proportion of adolescents reporting use of any illicit drugs during the past 30 days

Baseline: 8.0 percent of adolescents aged 12 to 17 years reported use of illicit drugs in the past 30 days in 2018

Target: 5.5 percent

Target Setting Method

People who start using drugs at an early age are more likely to develop a substance use disorder. Programs at the school, family, and community level can delay and reduce drug use in adolescents. Evidence-based interventions for drug use include behavioral and family-based approaches, medications for addiction treatment, and recovery support services.
