Status: Baseline only
Reduce chronic school absence among early adolescents
Baseline: 20.3 percent of 8th grade students missed 3 or more whole school days in the last month in 2017
Target: 16.4 percent
Students who are often absent from school are more likely to do worse in school and have more health problems later in life. In general, rates of chronic absence start to increase during middle school. Interventions at both the school and community level can help reduce school absences in middle school students.
