Violence Prevention: Policies Facilitating the Transfer of Juveniles to Adult Justice Systems

The Community Preventive Services Task Force (CPSTF) recommends against policies facilitating the transfer of juveniles from the juvenile to the adult criminal justice system. In this systematic review, the CPSTF found that youth who were transferred to the adult criminal justice system:

  • Were more likely to be re-arrested after release
  • Had higher rates of suicide
  • Were at risk of being victimized in adult facilities
