The Community Preventive Services Task Force recommends early childhood home visitation programs to reduce child abuse in high-risk families. Home visitation programs are delivered by nurses, social workers, paraprofessionals, or community peers. Some visits must occur through age 2, but they may start during pregnancy and continue after the child’s second birthday.
