The Community Preventive Services Task Force recommends enhanced enforcement programs to increase people’s use of safety belts and reduce deaths and injuries from motor vehicle crashes. These programs are used along with standard enforcement of seat belt laws, and they include publicity. There are 2 types:

  • Programs that increase citations and the number of officers on patrol 
  • Programs that promote more citations during an officer’s normal patrol
