In this Cochrane systematic review, the Cochrane Collaborative found that motivational interviewing has no meaningful benefits for preventing alcohol use, alcohol misuse, or alcohol-related problems in adults age 25 and younger. In addition, researchers found no relationship between how long motivational interviewing lasts and how effective it is.
