About the National Data
Data
Data Source: National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), CDC/NCHS
Baseline: 33.0 per 1,000 adults aged 18 years and over with diabetes had visual impairment due to diabetic retinopathy in 2017
Target: 16.5 per 1,000
Numerator
Number of adults aged 18 years and over with diabetic retinopathy, who have lost vision because of diabetic retinopathy.
Denominator
Number of adults aged 18 years and over with diagnosed diabetes.
Target-setting method
Minimal statistical significance
Target-setting method details
Minimal statistical significance, assuming the same standard error for the target as for the baseline.
Target-setting method justification
Trend data were evaluated for this objective, but it was not possible to project a target because the projections were not statistically significant improvements from the baseline. The standard error was used to calculate a target based on minimal statistical significance, assuming the same standard error for the target as for the baseline. This method was used because it was a statistically significant improvement from the baseline. The Healthy People 2030 Workgroup Subject Matter Experts viewed this as an ambitious yet achievable target.
Methodology
Methodology notes
Persons who responded "yes" to all three questions met the criteria for this objective.
