Status: Baseline only

Reduce the proportion of older adults who use inappropriate medications

Baseline: 15.9 percent of adults aged 65 years and over used inappropriate medications in 2015

Target: 11.2 percent

Target Setting Method

Some medications are linked to more risks than benefits for older adults, often because of side effects related to aging. But many older adults get prescriptions for these medications anyway. Health care providers can use the nationally accepted Beers criteria to keep older adults from getting inappropriate medications.
