Status: Baseline only
Reduce suicidal ideation among sexual minority (lesbian, gay, or bisexual) high school students, including those who seriously considered suicide, made a plan, or made an attempt in the past year
Baseline: 58.5 percent of sexual minority students in grades 9 through 12 reported that they experienced suicidal ideation in the past 12 months in 2017
Target: 52.1 percent
Summary
High school students who identify as lesbian, gay, or bisexual are much more likely to think about suicide than those who identify as heterosexual. Community- and family-based interventions that reduce risky behaviors like alcohol and drug use in lesbian, gay, and bisexual high school students may help reduce thoughts of suicide.
