Summary

Skin cancer is the most commonly diagnosed type of cancer in the United States — but most cases of skin cancer are preventable. Sunburn, especially early in life, can increase the risk of skin cancer. Community-wide programs and educational, environmental, and policy interventions can help increase behaviors that prevent sunburn in 9th- through 12th-graders.
