New Resources from NIDA on Opioids and More

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) has recently updated the NIDAMED Web Portal, which includes science-based information for health professionals on the causes and consequences of drug use and addiction.

The updated NIDAMED portal supports the goals of the National Action Plan for Adverse Drug Event Prevention which is to support training methods, interventions, and tools to encourage, model, and facilitate safe opioid prescribing.

The portal is a useful tool for seasoned health professionals and students searching for resources on pain management, treatment, and strategies for addressing drug abuse and addiction. These resources can ultimately help health professionals improve individual, community, and public health — as well as the quality of care delivered in various health care settings.

Content on the NIDAMED portal is organized into 5 helpful categories:

  • For Your Practice
  • Health Professions Education
  • Patient Resources
  • Safeguarding Medicines
  • Accessing Clinical Trial Information

The portal includes resources on a variety of topics, including:

  • Opioid prescribing and pain management
  • The federal government’s response to the opioid crisis
  • Medical marijuana
  • Screening and treatment for substance use
  • Addiction science
  • Health education curriculum resources on drug abuse and addiction for faculty at health professions institutions

You’ll also find information about CME/CE programs related to opioids.

We hope you find these new resources useful. If you have recommendations for additional resources to include on the NIDAMED portal, please contact the NIDAMED coordinator, by sending an email to: michelle.corbin@nih.gov.
