First Meeting of the 2018 Physical Activity Guidelines Advisory Committee

Be a part of the process of developing the second edition of the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. As the first step in the process, 17 nationally recognized experts in physical activity and health have been appointed to serve on the Physical Activity Guidelines Advisory Committee. The Advisory Committee’s first meeting will take place on July 14, 8:30 – 11:30 AM and July 15, 8:00 AM – 3:15 PM. The meeting is open to the public in person at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Campus in Bethesda or via webcast.

The Committee will work over 2 years to examine current scientific evidence on the relationship between physical activity and health. The Committee’s work will culminate with a scientific advisory report submitted to the Secretary of HHS with evidence-based recommendations. The Advisory Committee’s report along with comments from the public and federal partners will help inform the second edition of the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. ODPHP, in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institutes of Health, and the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition, is leading development of the second edition.
