Strategies for expanding health insurance coverage in vulnerable populations

In this Cochrane systematic review, the effectiveness of strategies to expand health insurance coverage for children and other vulnerable populations was assessed. They found that these strategies may increase children’s enrollment in health insurance:

• Offering support through community-based case managers who provide health insurance information, help complete applications, and negotiate with insurance providers
• Handing out insurance application materials in hospital emergency departments

However, researchers pointed out that further studies are needed to evaluate the effectiveness of different strategies for expanding health insurance coverage in vulnerable populations in different settings.
