Perinatal Depression: Preventive Interventions

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends counseling interventions for perinatal depression for women who are at higher risk. Specifically, USPSTF recommends interventions for women during pregnancy or after birth if they have 1 or more of the following:

  • History of depression
  • Symptoms of depression
  • Risk factors related to social-economic status
  • Recent history of intimate partner violence
  • Other risk factors related to mental health
