The Community Preventive Services Task Force (CPSTF) recommends group-based comprehensive risk reduction (CRR) interventions for adolescents ages 10 to 19 years old. CRR interventions promote behaviors that prevent or reduce the risk of pregnancy, HIV, and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). They may promote:
- Abstinence as a preferred method but also provide information about sexual risk reduction strategies
- Abstinence and sexual risk reduction equally
- Sexual risk reduction strategies, primarily or solely
CPSTF found sufficient evidence for CRR effectiveness in reducing self-reported risk behaviors and STIs but limited direct evidence for reducing pregnancy and HIV.
