The 2018 Physical Activity Guidelines Advisory Committee held its fourth public meeting July 19 – 21, 2017. The subcommittees and work groups provided updates on the systematic literature review results for full committee deliberation. Presentation Highlights
- Physical activity helps prevent development of most types of cancer. Cancer – Primary Prevention Subcommittee
- Physical activity can reduce weight gain over time. Cardiometabolic Health and Weight Management Subcommittee
- Physical activity during pregnancy can reduce weight gained during pregnancy. Pregnancy Work Group
The Committee also discussed how they will synthesize the conclusions of the systematic literature review into its Scientific Report. This will provide a clear framework for the government as it develops the next edition of the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. The Committee will identify how its work has expanded, updated, or modified the findings from 10 years ago, and also note what to carry forward from the 2008 Scientific Report.
