National Physical Education & Sport Week is held May 1-7 to raise awareness for effective health and physical education. Led by SHAPE America, the Society of Health and Physical Educators, this week is dedicated to empowering all children to lead healthy and active lives through effective health and physical education programs — a commitment known as 50 Million Strong by 2029.
National Minority Health Month is celebrated every April in the United States. This year, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health is joining partners throughout the nation to “Bridge Health Equity Across Communities.”
On March 23, 2017 the Physical Activity Guidelines Advisory Committee held its third public meeting. It was the third of five planned public meetings. This third meeting provided an opportunity for the Physical Activity Guidelines Advisory Committee subcommittees to present their progress to the full Committee and gain consensus on several issues.

The Physical Activity Guidelines Advisory Committee is composed of 17 nationally recognized experts in the fields of physical activity and health. Today, we are highlighting Dr. William Kraus, Director of Translational Research at the Duke Molecular Physiology Institute and a preventive sports cardiologist in the Duke Division of Cardiology. On the Committee, Dr. Kraus serves as the Chair of the Exposure Subcommittee and as a member of the Individuals with Chronic Conditions Subcommittee.
