If you coach or work at a high school, or know someone who plays high school sports, you should inquire about the presence of an athletic trainer during sports practices and games. If the school does not currently have access to an athletic trainer, parents, coaches, and the athletic director should work together to try to arrange for athletic trainer coverage.…

Now that school is out, kids have time to play and get exercise. Unfortunately, far too many children spend hours each day watching television and doing other activities in front of a screen rather than being physically active.

In a 2013 policy statement, the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Council on Communications and Media estimated that 8- to 10-year-olds spend about eight hours each day engaging in various forms of media.…
