The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends screening for hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in pregnant people at their first prenatal visit. This usually involves a blood test to identify the HBsAg antigen. USPSTF notes that people need to get screened for HBV in each pregnancy even if they’ve been vaccinated against HBV or tested negative in the past.
