Sample Survey: self-administered paper-and-pencil questionnaire.
Description
Historically until 2018, MEPS-HC collected information about receipt of preventive care services through its core questionnaire for which one household respondent typically provides information for household members. During Panel 18 Round 5 of the 2014 MEPS-HC, it fielded a paper-and-pencil questionnaire called the Preventive Care Self-Administered Questionnaire (PSAQ) in which each respondent provided information for himself or herself. This pilot survey was designed to collect a variety of person-level preventive care data for a sample of adults age 35 and older. In alternate years beginning 2018, these questions were incorporated into the standard MEPS Self-Administered Questionnaire (SAQ).

Methodology
The PSAQ study sample was selected from among those Panel 18 respondents who were in in-scope for MEPS on December 31, 2013; received a MEPS 2013 full year person-level weight; and were at least 35 years of age on January 1, 2015. There were two separate questionnaires, one for males and another for females. Overall, females had a higher response rate (83.4 percent), compared to their male counterparts (75.0 percent). There were 2,185 PSAQ respondents receiving a sample weight. Summing the weights assigned to these respondents yields the total 170,400,202, an estimate of those 35 years or older in the civilian, noninstitutionalized population on January 1, 2015.
