HRSA's Healthcare Systems Bureau (HSB) protects the public health and improves the health of individuals through an array of programs that provide national leadership and direction in targeted areas. HSB oversees the nationís organ, bone marrow and cord blood donation and transplantation systems, poison control and vaccine injury compensation programs, and a drug discount program for certain safety-net health care providers. HSB's Organ Donation and Transplantation programs extend and enhance the lives of individuals with end-stage organ failure for whom an organ transplant is the most appropriate therapeutic treatment. HSB also manages Hill-Burton free or reduced-cost care programs.
Publications include a guide for health facilities on how to operate a Hill-Burton uncompensated services program, a directory of all facilities currently required to provide free or below cost healthcare, and a Free Hospital Care brochure.
