PURPOSE OF WORKSHOP

The purpose of the Workshop was to examine how PHS and other Federal agencies have advanced the practice and theory of health risk communication in the following areas:

• Examining the relative state of the art—what evaluation methods work, and which ones still need development if they are to be applied successfully in health risk communication activities;
• Emphasizing the need for acquiring useful skills in more effective design, implementation, and evaluation of health risk communication messages; and
• Building cooperative relationships with fellow practitioners and researchers who share mutual interests in health risk communication.
